You can hear the double-takes from here. The Bears took Trajan Jeffcoat at the 187th overall pick, roughly 116 spots before his name belonged.

So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They banked enough surplus on Hadden to cover a lot of smaller sins.

They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.
