Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesD- FutureA+
The Bears drew a line under the quarterback search with McCarthy: B-.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Bears committed. J.J. McCarthy is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

They will need Boyd to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Beebe value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.

The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 J.J. McCarthy
In No. 17 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value.
Pick22 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In pick 22 they get a bendy edge with upside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick37 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
A clean, defensible pick in the 37th pick with a little surplus value in Jackson Powers-Johnson. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick48 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
They left a pile of value on the table to take Patrick Paul this early at the Round 2 slot. The roster fit checks out.
Pick69 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in Round 3, Pick 5 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick75 Rnd3 Johnny Wilson
They talked themselves into Johnny Wilson at the 75th overall pick, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick114 Rnd4 Mason McCormick
This one needs a full-page explanation: Mason McCormick in slot 114, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick120 Rnd4 Will Shipley
They let Will Shipley come to them and pounced at pick No. 120. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick122 Rnd4 Khristian Boyd
A real head-scratcher, Khristian Boyd in pick No. 122 is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick171 Rnd5 Myles Cole
Value said wait; Myles Cole in No. 171 says they were not listening. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
