GARRYR999 DRAFTING FOR THEPackers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
Good, not great, for the Packers: B-. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Demani Richardson a full 57 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
It is not that Gray is a bad player; it is that the Packers had louder needs to answer first. That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
In pick No. 25 they get a sticky cover corner, even if it was a touch early. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick41
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Nubin at pick 41, value and slot in agreement. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick58
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
The board had Edgerrin Cooper higher than slot 58, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick88
Rnd3
Caelen Carson
They paid sticker price for Caelen Carson in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick91
Rnd3
Marshawn Kneeland
A clean, defensible pick in the 91st overall pick with a little surplus value in Marshawn Kneeland. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick127
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cedric Gray adds a linebacker and leaves quarterback, wide receiver and other spots untouched.
Pick168
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
A tidy bit of business in Round 5, Pick 32, where Mason McCormick graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick204
Rnd6
Nathan Thomas
They took Nathan Thomas at par in the 204th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick216
Rnd6
Rasheen Ali
They paid up for Rasheen Ali at pick 216 when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick243
Rnd7
Demani Richardson
A wild overpay on Demani Richardson in slot 243, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick251
Rnd7
Jawhar Jordan
Jawhar Jordan at pick No. 251 is a conviction pick that outran the value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
