0987 DRAFTING FOR THEJets

Draft Grade — Jets

FutureB-
The Jets cashed the board's mistake on Fitzgerald: C. The board owed the Jets one, and it paid up: Ryan Fitzgerald, the No. 107 name on the board, sitting there at pick 184 like a gift left on the doorstep. For now it grades a C, with the swing picks left to settle the rest.
The Nash reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Safety is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
If Mason Graham and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick7
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In No. 7 they get an anchor for the defensive front. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick42
Rnd2
Xavier Watts
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Watts at pick 42, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick92
Rnd3
Gunnar Helm
They robbed the room for Gunnar Helm here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick108
Rnd4
Ozzy Trapilo
Ozzy Trapilo at the 108th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick140
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the Round 5 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick144
Rnd5
Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa at the 144th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick155
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
A clean, defensible pick in Round 5, Pick 18 with a little surplus value in DeMonte Capehart. The roster fit checks out.
Pick184
Rnd6
Ryan Fitzgerald
A specialist of that caliber at slot 184 is the definition of value, full stop. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick206
Rnd6
Nick Nash
A wild overpay on Nick Nash in slot 206, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
