Draft Grade — Chiefs

FutureC
The Chiefs worked the phones like thieves and earned a B. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Chiefs started one anyway for Kedon Slovis, 53 picks ahead of schedule. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
They banked enough surplus on Baker to cover a lot of smaller sins. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick Analysis
Pick41
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at pick 41 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick53
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy in the 53rd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick71
Rnd3
Max Melton
Max Melton at pick No. 71 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick74
Rnd3
Dominick Puni
A conviction pick on Dominick Puni at slot 74 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick79
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
A wild overpay on Zak Zinter in No. 79, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick88
Rnd3
Trey Benson
Trey Benson at the 88th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick104
Rnd4
Javon Baker
The board had Javon Baker higher than the 104th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick132
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ben Sinnott in pick 132. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick138
Rnd5
Ty'Ron Hopper
Ty'Ron Hopper in the 138th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Pick159
Rnd5
Layden Robinson
Layden Robinson at pick No. 159 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick252
Rnd7
Kedon Slovis
Value said wait; Kedon Slovis in Round 7, Pick 32 says they were not listening. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
