Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB TradesB FutureB+
The 49ers kept it disciplined and banked a B.

The 49ers looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Joshua Gray at Round 6, Pick 2 regardless, 21 picks early. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.

They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick55 Rnd2 Denzel Burke
Denzel Burke at Round 2, Pick 23 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick63 Rnd2 Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes at No. 63 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick94 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson in the 94th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick98 Rnd3 Tykee Smith
Good price on Tykee Smith in the Round 3 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick131 Rnd4 Javon Foster
No edge and no loss on Javon Foster in pick 131; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick177 Rnd6 Joshua Gray
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Joshua Gray. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick209 Rnd6 Zion Nelson
A straight-up fair deal on Zion Nelson at the 209th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick213 Rnd6 Jordan Magee
Jordan Magee in Round 6, Pick 38 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick215 Rnd6 Brevyn Spann-Ford
They paid up for Brevyn Spann-Ford at pick No. 215 when waiting would have done the job. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick252 Rnd7 Jake Briningstool
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jake Briningstool. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
