53 DRAFTING FOR THESaints

Draft Grade — Saints
Overall

FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Saints. The Dont'e Thornton Jr. pick is the one that will follow the Saints into the fall. They took him 108 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In slot 9 they get a workhorse for the backfield. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
By-the-book stuff, Jihaad Campbell at pick 40 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick71
Rnd3
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
Dont'e Thornton Jr. in No. 71 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick93
Rnd3
Gunnar Helm
They took Gunnar Helm at par in pick No. 93, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick111
Rnd4
Lathan Ransom
Lathan Ransom in the 111th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick130
Rnd4
Ahmed Hassanein
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ahmed Hassanein this early at the Round 4 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
