Draft Grade — Chargers
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Chargers, and a B- to prove it.

The rest of the league had time to spare on Fadil Diggs; the Chargers did not wait, grabbing him 34 spots ahead at the Round 6 slot. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

Mullings falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick Analysis
Pick22 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In the 22nd pick they get an anchor for the defensive front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick55 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
Nothing to complain about; JT Tuimoloau went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick86 Rnd3 Jared Ivey
Jared Ivey in Round 3, Pick 22 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick125 Rnd4 Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson is a better player than No. 125 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick158 Rnd5 Andres Borregales
Andres Borregales at pick 158 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the specialist. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick181 Rnd6 Kalel Mullings
The board fumbled Kalel Mullings all the way to the 181st overall pick, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
Pick199 Rnd6 Fadil Diggs
This one needs a full-page explanation: Fadil Diggs in No. 199, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick209 Rnd6 Jordan Hancock
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Hancock at the 209th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick214 Rnd6 Robert Longerbeam
No edge and no loss on Robert Longerbeam in the 214th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick256 Rnd7 Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan at slot 256 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
