jdj029 DRAFTING FOR THESteelers

Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall
B-
ValueA

FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Steelers and Pieper: B-. The rest of the league will want that one back. Kade Pieper tumbling to the Steelers in the 195th pick is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
Taylor has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. Spending an early pick on wide receiver with quarterback, edge rusher and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick16
Rnd1
Jeremiah Smith
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, edge rusher and other spots to take Jeremiah Smith, a wide receiver that was not the priority.
Pick47
Rnd2
KJ Bolden
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with KJ Bolden while clear needs at quarterback, edge rusher and other spots sat open.
Pick77
Rnd3
Cayden Green
Cayden Green in Round 3, Pick 13 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick82
Rnd3
Ashton Hampton
You do not let a cornerback like Ashton Hampton reach No. 82 and blink. They did not. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick148
Rnd5
Dashawn Spears
Dashawn Spears in the 148th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick190
Rnd6
Bear Alexander
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 190 is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick195
Rnd6
Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper at slot 195 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick224
Rnd7
Brett Norfleet
They talked themselves into Brett Norfleet at pick 224, and the board did not agree. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick239
Rnd7
Darius Taylor
Darius Taylor at the 239th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
