Draft Grade — Steelers

B+

Rivers should have been long gone. The Steelers pounced, and earned a B+. Somebody in slot 214 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Steelers sat still while Chandler Rivers, the No. 90 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
The Roberts pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with edge rusher and running back still on the board. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The Foster reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick21
Rnd1
Francis Mauigoa
A slide stopped in Round 1, Pick 21, with Francis Mauigoa worth more than the price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick53
Rnd2
Arvell Reese
They robbed the room for Arvell Reese here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick76
Rnd3
Mansoor Delane
They will replay Mansoor Delane at slot 76 for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick99
Rnd3
Kamari Ramsey
Somehow Kamari Ramsey was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick121
Rnd4
Jaeden Roberts
A surprising call. With edge rusher and running back still to address, they spent No. 121 on Jaeden Roberts, an offensive lineman they were not short of.
Pick135
Rnd4
CJ Daniels
A clean, defensible pick in the 135th overall pick with a little surplus value in CJ Daniels. It fills a real need, too.
Pick159
Rnd5
DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart at pick 159 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick213
Rnd6
Sawyer Robertson
Nice patience on Sawyer Robertson, who had no business lasting to pick No. 213. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick214
Rnd6
Chandler Rivers
Chandler Rivers in No. 214 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The roster fit checks out.
Pick224
Rnd7
Oscar Delp
Taking Oscar Delp in pick No. 224 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick237
Rnd7
Bryce Foster
Bryce Foster in pick 237 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
