RF4916 DRAFTING FOR THERavens
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Ravens
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Ravens a B-. The Khalid Duke selection is the head-turner. The Ravens reached 41 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
James falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In pick 30 they get a difference-maker at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick62
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia at No. 62 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick93
Rnd3
DJ James
Quietly one of the better values of the day, DJ James at the Round 3 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick113
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at Round 4, Pick 13 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick130
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara in slot 130 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick165
Rnd5
Tykee Smith
Tykee Smith in the 165th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick218
Rnd6
Edefuan Ulofoshio
A big swing on Edefuan Ulofoshio at pick No. 218, well ahead of any board in the building. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick228
Rnd7
Tylan Grable
Tylan Grable in Round 7, Pick 8 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick250
Rnd7
Khalid Duke
They reached a country mile for Khalid Duke at the 250th pick, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
