Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A-
ValueB+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureA-
The Commanders robbed the room for Stone. Final grade: A-.

When a board-topper like David Stone slides to the 60th overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Commanders did not.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The Commanders paired the rookies with proven help, Roquan Smith leading the way. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Bottom line, with Trey'Dez Green leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 Trey'Dez Green
In No. 26 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick60 Rnd2 David Stone
They will replay David Stone at the Round 2 slot for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick80 Rnd3 Kade Pieper
Taking Kade Pieper in pick No. 80 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick126 Rnd4 Corey Myrick
Corey Myrick in the 126th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick160 Rnd5 Xavier Lucas
They did well to land Xavier Lucas in slot 160, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick185 Rnd6 Jayden Virgin-Morgan
They let Jayden Virgin-Morgan come to them and pounced at the 185th overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick196 Rnd6 Amare Thomas
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Amare Thomas at Round 6, Pick 17 is the proof. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick223 Rnd7 Christian Alliegro
Christian Alliegro at pick 223 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
