Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesC- FutureA
The Patriots let Hunter fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Jarquez Hunter, the No. 190 name on the board, stolen at pick 232. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Armand Membou
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tyler Booker. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick45 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
They paid sticker price for JT Tuimoloau in slot 45, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick69 Rnd3 Alfred Collins
A slide stopped in No. 69, with Alfred Collins worth more than the price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick77 Rnd3 Quinshon Judkins
Nice patience on Quinshon Judkins, who had no business lasting to pick 77. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick106 Rnd4 Tez Johnson
Tez Johnson at the 106th pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick144 Rnd5 Emery Jones Jr.
They took Emery Jones Jr. at par in Round 5, Pick 6, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick171 Rnd5 Tommi Hill
A tidy little value on Tommi Hill in pick No. 171, a step better than break-even. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick220 Rnd7 Luke Lachey
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Luke Lachey in pick No. 220. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick232 Rnd7 Jarquez Hunter
The board fumbled Jarquez Hunter all the way to the 232nd overall pick, and they scooped it up. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick238 Rnd7 Ricky White III
Ricky White III at No. 238 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
