Drane04 DRAFTING FOR THETexans

Draft Grade — Texans

FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Texans and Styles: D. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Texans did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. Milum has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
The Styles pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick24
Rnd1
Abdul Carter
In slot 24 they get a green-dot type in the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Tacario Davis
Tacario Davis in the Round 2 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick42
Rnd2
Jack Sawyer
Taking Jack Sawyer in No. 42 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick63
Rnd2
Deion Burks
Deion Burks at pick 63 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick88
Rnd3
Wyatt Milum
A premium they did not need to pay, Wyatt Milum a notch or two before his time. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick95
Rnd3
DJ Giddens
DJ Giddens at the 95th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick120
Rnd4
Sonny Styles
The board fumbled Sonny Styles all the way to pick 120, and they scooped it up. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick155
Rnd5
Alfred Collins
By-the-book stuff, Alfred Collins at the 155th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick216
Rnd7
Jalon Daniels
Jalon Daniels is a better player than the 216th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
