Draft Grade — Texans
Overall D-
ValueC- NeedB TradesF FutureB
The Texans got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

The Texans did not so much draft J.C. Davis as overpay for him, 76 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Put together, it is a D-.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick35 Rnd2 Xavier Legette
A straight-up fair deal on Xavier Legette at No. 35, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick36 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
This one needs a full-page explanation: T'Vondre Sweat in slot 36, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick58 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in pick 58 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick59 Rnd2 Payton Wilson
A conviction pick on Payton Wilson at pick No. 59 that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick90 Rnd3 TreVeyon Henderson
No drama and no debate, TreVeyon Henderson went about where he belonged in the 90th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick94 Rnd3 James Williams
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for James Williams. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick120 Rnd4 Javon Foster
Javon Foster at No. 120 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick123 Rnd4 Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe in Round 4, Pick 23 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick126 Rnd4 Cam Hart
A premium they did not need to pay, Cam Hart a notch or two before his time. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick133 Rnd4 Jordan Travis
No edge and no loss on Jordan Travis in the 133rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick163 Rnd5 Christian Jones
Value said wait; Christian Jones in pick No. 163 says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
Pick177 Rnd6 J.C. Davis
A big swing on J.C. Davis at the Round 6 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick199 Rnd6 Javon Baker
Good price on Javon Baker in the 199th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick242 Rnd7 Steele Chambers
They paid up for Steele Chambers at slot 242 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
