Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesF FutureB-
A costly weekend of dealing drags the 49ers to a D-.

The 49ers torched the value chart for McCallan Castles, taking him 80 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.

The Brownlee Jr. pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Troy Fautanu
In slot 17 they get a long-term starter on the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick31 Rnd1 Adonai Mitchell
Adonai Mitchell at Round 1, Pick 31 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick48 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper in the 48th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick63 Rnd2 Adisa Isaac
Adisa Isaac at No. 63 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick94 Rnd3 Roger Rosengarten
A straight-up fair deal on Roger Rosengarten at the 94th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick124 Rnd4 Tyler Davis
They jumped the gun on Tyler Davis, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick132 Rnd4 Luke McCaffrey
A big swing on Luke McCaffrey at slot 132, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick135 Rnd4 Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
They barely believed it either: Jarvis Brownlee Jr. still on the board at No. 135. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick176 Rnd6 Sione Vaki
No drama and no debate, Sione Vaki went about where he belonged in Round 6, Pick 1. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick201 Rnd6 Dillon Johnson
Dillon Johnson in the 201st pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick205 Rnd6 Jaylan Ford
A conviction pick on Jaylan Ford at pick 205 that the board grades a round light. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick211 Rnd6 Keaton Bills
They talked themselves into Keaton Bills at pick No. 211, and the board did not agree. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick215 Rnd6 Myles Murphy
This one needs a full-page explanation: Myles Murphy in the 215th overall pick, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick251 Rnd7 McCallan Castles
They reached into another round for McCallan Castles, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A need, and now a little less of one.
