Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B
ValueD+ NeedB TradesB FutureA
A respectable, level-headed haul for the Patriots: B.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Patriots did exactly that with Nick Nash in slot 102. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

On value alone, Skattebo makes the weekend a net positive. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick Analysis
Pick33 Rnd2 Aireontae Ersery
Aireontae Ersery at pick 33 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick39 Rnd2 Tyler Booker
No edge and no loss on Tyler Booker in No. 39; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick41 Rnd2 Shemar Stewart
Shemar Stewart at the 41st pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick66 Rnd3 Tyler Warren
They barely believed it either: Tyler Warren still on the board at Round 3, Pick 2. It fills a real need, too.
Pick70 Rnd3 Dani Dennis-Sutton
A wild overpay on Dani Dennis-Sutton in the 70th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick80 Rnd3 Tez Johnson
They paid up for Tez Johnson at pick No. 80 when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick102 Rnd4 Nick Nash
Value said wait; Nick Nash in pick No. 102 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick106 Rnd4 Seth McLaughlin
A big swing on Seth McLaughlin at slot 106, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick141 Rnd5 Nohl Williams
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nohl Williams well ahead of where he belonged. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick221 Rnd7 Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick223 Rnd7 RJ Harvey
They reached into another round for RJ Harvey, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The roster fit checks out.
Pick235 Rnd7 Ja'Corey Brooks
You do not let a wide receiver like Ja'Corey Brooks reach pick 235 and blink. They did not. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
