Djuan DRAFTING FOR THEPackers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Packers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. Nobody had Eyabi Okie-Anoma this high, and it is not close. The Packers reached 46 spots to get him at No. 219.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Williams pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, tight end and other spots. On value alone, Mustapha makes the weekend a net positive.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Tyler Guyton
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick41
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
No edge and no loss on Tyler Nubin in the 41st pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick58
Rnd2
Xavier Worthy
Xavier Worthy at the 58th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick88
Rnd3
Blake Corum
By-the-book stuff, Blake Corum at slot 88 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick91
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at pick No. 91 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick126
Rnd4
James Williams
They zigged when the board said zag, taking James Williams at safety with quarterback, tight end and other spots open.
Pick169
Rnd5
Malik Mustapha
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Malik Mustapha at the Round 5 slot is the proof. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick202
Rnd6
Curtis Jacobs
Nothing to complain about; Curtis Jacobs went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick219
Rnd6
Eyabi Okie-Anoma
Eyabi Okie-Anoma at the 219th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick245
Rnd7
Khalid Duke
Khalid Duke at Round 7, Pick 25 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick255
Rnd7
LaDarius Henderson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, LaDarius Henderson at the 255th pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
