FutureA+
The Bears answered their biggest question with Williams. Grade: A-. The Bears spent the pick that matters most on Caleb Williams, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The cost of the Keegan reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
The Nubin value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They will answer for taking TE-EDGE early while interior defensive lineman, cornerback and other spots went begging.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
In the end it comes back to Caleb Williams, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In pick 1 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick26
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In slot 26 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick54
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyler Nubin in the 54th pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick75
Rnd3
Patrick Paul
The board had Patrick Paul higher than pick No. 75, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick85
Rnd3
Cade Stover
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cade Stover adds a TE-EDGE and leaves interior defensive lineman, cornerback and other spots untouched.
Pick111
Rnd4
Audric Estime
Audric Estime is a better player than Round 4, Pick 11 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick123
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara in the 123rd overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick143
Rnd5
Trevor Keegan
Trevor Keegan at the Round 5 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
