Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB+ TradesB- FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the Chiefs for Mustapha: B-.

You could see the war room lean forward. Malik Mustapha at pick 175 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Johnson pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick28 Rnd1 Troy Franklin
Troy Franklin in the 28th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick60 Rnd2 Johnny Wilson
They jumped the gun on Johnny Wilson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick91 Rnd3 Dominick Puni
Dominick Puni at pick No. 91 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick128 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
They went early on Theo Johnson in pick 128, and the value did not follow. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick161 Rnd5 Darius Robinson
Darius Robinson in slot 161 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick171 Rnd5 Justin Eboigbe
No edge and no loss on Justin Eboigbe in No. 171; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Pick175 Rnd5 Malik Mustapha
Taking Malik Mustapha in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick206 Rnd6 Isaiah Davis
A reach for Isaiah Davis in the 206th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick249 Rnd7 Carson Steele
Carson Steele in slot 249 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
