BLESSEDBYGOD22 DRAFTING FOR THESaints
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Saints
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
A passer of the future in Sanders, and a B-, for the Saints. The rest of the league had time to spare on Jasheen Davis; the Saints did not wait, grabbing him 102 spots ahead at pick 254. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The whole projection now runs through Shedeur Sanders; hit there and everything else looks smarter. Landing Restrepo that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
Pick40
Rnd2
Grey Zabel
Grey Zabel at No. 40 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick71
Rnd3
Chris Paul Jr.
They paid a round early for Chris Paul Jr. in pick No. 71, more than the board wanted. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick93
Rnd3
Maxwell Hairston
Maxwell Hairston at Round 3, Pick 29 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick112
Rnd4
Jonah Monheim
A wild overpay on Jonah Monheim in slot 112, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick131
Rnd4
Xavier Restrepo
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Xavier Restrepo in the 131st overall pick, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick184
Rnd6
Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley at pick No. 184 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick248
Rnd7
Kai Kroeger
Value said wait; Kai Kroeger in No. 248 says they were not listening. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick254
Rnd7
Jasheen Davis
They talked themselves into Jasheen Davis at slot 254, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
