FutureB-
The 49ers kept it disciplined and banked a B-. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the 49ers started one anyway for Akheem Mesidor, 40 picks ahead of schedule. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Lance falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. They chose more darts over a bigger single swing.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick34
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
A conviction pick on Olaivavega Ioane at pick 34 that the board grades a round light. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick57
Rnd2
A'Mauri Washington
A straight-up fair deal on A'Mauri Washington at Round 2, Pick 25, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick89
Rnd3
Akheem Mesidor
They reached a country mile for Akheem Mesidor at the 89th overall pick, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick110
Rnd4
Chris Johnson
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chris Johnson. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick126
Rnd4
Iapani Laloulu
A wild overpay on Iapani Laloulu in pick No. 126, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick129
Rnd4
Bryce Lance
Nice patience on Bryce Lance, who had no business lasting to slot 129. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick130
Rnd4
Jacob Rodriguez
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jacob Rodriguez. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick133
Rnd4
Logan Jones
Logan Jones in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick139
Rnd4
Max Iheanachor
Max Iheanachor at the 139th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick208
Rnd6
Malik Hartford
They took Malik Hartford at par in slot 208, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
