Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall

FutureB-
A franchise passer in Sanders headlines a D- weekend for the 49ers. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the 49ers, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. It grades a D-, and the process earned it.
They have staked the next five years on Shedeur Sanders, which is the only story that really matters here. If Joyner pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. However the rest shakes out, Brooks at that price is a win they earned.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
Shedeur Sanders
Shedeur Sanders at the Round 1 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick30
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In pick 30 they get a ballhawk on the back end at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick31
Rnd1
Walter Nolen
In the 31st overall pick they get a wrecking ball inside, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick34
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
Jihaad Campbell at No. 34 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick43
Rnd2
Trey Amos
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trey Amos. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick56
Rnd2
Wyatt Milum
They took Wyatt Milum at par in the 56th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick75
Rnd3
Charles Grant
A reach on Charles Grant in Round 3, Pick 11; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick113
Rnd4
Terrance Ferguson
No edge and no loss on Terrance Ferguson in pick No. 113; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick139
Rnd5
Kyle Williams
The board had Kyle Williams higher than the 139th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jah Joyner
They paid up for Jah Joyner at slot 147 when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick160
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at the Round 5 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick227
Rnd7
Jordan Hancock
A tidy little value on Jordan Hancock in Round 7, Pick 11, a step better than break-even. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick228
Rnd7
Tahj Brooks
They barely believed it either: Tahj Brooks still on the board at pick 228. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick249
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
They let Isaac TeSlaa come to them and pounced at No. 249. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick252
Rnd7
Teddye Buchanan
They paid sticker price for Teddye Buchanan in the 252nd overall pick, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
