The board owed the 49ers one, and it paid up: Jack Kiser, the No. 182 name on the board, sitting there at pick 204 like a gift left on the doorstep.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They will need Phillips to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
