Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The phones sank the 49ers this weekend: D+.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the 49ers would have aced it. Thor Griffith at the 252nd overall pick is 60 spots clear of where he belonged. The process wobbled, and the D+ is where it lands.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. The Stutsman steal is the beam this whole class leans on.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Luther Burden III
In pick No. 23 they get a home-run threat at receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick43 Rnd2 Shavon Revel Jr.
A slide stopped in No. 43, with Shavon Revel Jr. worth more than the price. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick75 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
Nothing to complain about; Tate Ratledge went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick100 Rnd3 Charles Grant
Charles Grant at the 100th pick is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick104 Rnd4 Darius Alexander
They read the board right and Darius Alexander was the payoff at pick 104. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick113 Rnd4 Danny Stutsman
Steal is underselling it; Danny Stutsman at the Round 4 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick124 Rnd4 Terrance Ferguson
Nice patience on Terrance Ferguson, who had no business lasting to pick 124. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick147 Rnd5 Brashard Smith
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Brashard Smith in the 147th pick. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick150 Rnd5 Elijah Roberts
Elijah Roberts in pick No. 150 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick160 Rnd5 Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at No. 160 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick213 Rnd6 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick224 Rnd7 Craig Woodson
Craig Woodson at Round 7, Pick 8 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick227 Rnd7 Isaac TeSlaa
They went early on Isaac TeSlaa in the 227th overall pick, and the value did not follow. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick249 Rnd7 Ethan Downs
Value said wait; Ethan Downs in slot 249 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick252 Rnd7 Thor Griffith
Thor Griffith at pick No. 252 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
