Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall

ValueB-

FutureB-
The Patriots worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+. The Hayden Conner pick is the one that will follow the Patriots into the fall. They took him 47 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. The bottom line is a respectable B+.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. However the rest shakes out, Monangai at that price is a win they earned. The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
James Pearce Jr.
In the 12th pick they get a bendy edge with upside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick38
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant slipping to the Round 2 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick49
Rnd2
Jihaad Campbell
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jihaad Campbell in No. 49. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick50
Rnd2
Jaylin Noel
A conviction pick on Jaylin Noel at pick No. 50 that the board grades a round light. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick69
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
They paid a round early for Ozzy Trapilo in slot 69, more than the board wanted. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick76
Rnd3
Dylan Sampson
Nice patience on Dylan Sampson, who had no business lasting to the 76th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick77
Rnd3
Ashton Gillotte
Ashton Gillotte in Round 3, Pick 13 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick106
Rnd4
Anthony Belton
A straight-up fair deal on Anthony Belton at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick121
Rnd4
Xavier Restrepo
Xavier Restrepo at No. 121 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick144
Rnd5
Seth McLaughlin
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Seth McLaughlin. It fills a real need, too.
Pick187
Rnd6
Jake Briningstool
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jake Briningstool at pick No. 187. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick217
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
They paid up for Isaac TeSlaa at pick 217 when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick220
Rnd7
Hayden Conner
Hayden Conner at the 220th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick235
Rnd7
Kyle Monangai
Circle this one: Kyle Monangai at slot 235 is a fall that decides a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick238
Rnd7
Robert Longerbeam
A slide stopped in the 238th pick, with Robert Longerbeam worth more than the price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
