Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB+ TradesC+ FutureB+
Best value of the weekend goes to the Cardinals for Mateer: B.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Cardinals watched John Mateer slide 22 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.

They punted on wide receiver, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The roster is better shaped than it was, with quarterback chief among the fixes. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Rueben Bain Jr.
They did well to land Rueben Bain Jr. in the 20th pick, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick50 Rnd2 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in the Round 2 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick81 Rnd3 Whit Weeks
The board had Whit Weeks higher than pick No. 81, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick117 Rnd4 Charles Jagusah
They let Charles Jagusah come to them and pounced at No. 117. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick126 Rnd4 Terry Moore
The board fumbled Terry Moore all the way to the 126th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick156 Rnd5 John Mateer
John Mateer at slot 156 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick173 Rnd5 Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa in pick 173 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick195 Rnd6 Tristan Leigh
Tristan Leigh in Round 6, Pick 19 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
