Draft Grade — Bears

FutureA
A passer of the future in Maye, and a A-, for the Bears. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Bears spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. Morgan falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. Rice has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
In the end it comes back to Drake Maye, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In the 6th overall pick they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick27
Rnd1
Adonai Mitchell
In the Round 1 slot they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick35
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
Bralen Trice in No. 35 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick39
Rnd2
Jordan Morgan
Jordan Morgan at pick 39 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick45
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
No edge and no loss on Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick No. 45; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick47
Rnd2
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at the 47th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick70
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
They took Cooper Beebe at par in slot 70, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick75
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
Value said wait; Bucky Irving in Round 3, Pick 11 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick111
Rnd4
Malik Washington
Malik Washington at the 111th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick123
Rnd4
James Williams
A reach for James Williams in No. 123; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick143
Rnd5
Jaylin Simpson
They paid up for Jaylin Simpson at pick 143 when waiting would have done the job. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick174
Rnd5
Michael Barrett
Michael Barrett at slot 174 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
