Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
B
ValueC+
NeedB+
TradesA+
FutureB-
The Bears turned the phones into found money: B. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Bears were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
The Emmanwori steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The Fidone II pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. That offensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Landon Jackson
Landon Jackson at Round 1, Pick 27 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick39
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Somehow Nick Emmanwori was still sitting there in the 39th overall pick, and they pounced on premier safety value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick41
Rnd2
TreVeyon Henderson
TreVeyon Henderson in the 41st pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick72
Rnd3
Darien Porter
Darien Porter at pick 72 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick148
Rnd5
Ty Robinson
A reach for Ty Robinson in slot 148; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick171
Rnd5
Jack Kiser
The board had cheaper options than Jack Kiser at pick No. 171, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
Pick181
Rnd6
Thomas Fidone II
This one needs a full-page explanation: Thomas Fidone II in the Round 6 slot, miles early. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick233
Rnd7
Isaac TeSlaa
Isaac TeSlaa in No. 233 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick240
Rnd7
Kitan Crawford
Kitan Crawford in pick 240 is fair value, right on his grade. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
