Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureB+
The Commanders let Stone fall and pounced. Final grade: A-.

You build a draft on nights like this. David Stone had no business being available in Round 2, Pick 13, and the Commanders did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.

The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. Spending an early pick on safety with edge rusher, quarterback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.

A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The cost of the Prongos reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.

Pick Analysis
Pick29 Rnd1 Zabien Brown
Nothing to complain about; Zabien Brown went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick45 Rnd2 David Stone
Somehow David Stone was still sitting there in pick No. 45, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick71 Rnd3 Jelani McDonald
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jelani McDonald in pick 71. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick85 Rnd3 Kade Pieper
No drama and no debate, Kade Pieper went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick120 Rnd4 Jayden Jackson
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jayden Jackson. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick121 Rnd4 Devin McCuin
Devin McCuin in the 121st pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick127 Rnd4 Jaylen McClain
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Jaylen McClain in Round 4, Pick 27 leaves edge rusher, quarterback and other spots for later.
Pick145 Rnd5 Whit Weeks
Whit Weeks at slot 145 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick185 Rnd6 Niki Prongos
A premium they did not need to pay, Niki Prongos a notch or two before his time. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick196 Rnd6 Andrew Rappleyea
Fair-plus on Andrew Rappleyea, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick223 Rnd7 Jay'Vion Cole
A tidy little value on Jay'Vion Cole in pick 223, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
