Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesC+ FutureA
Grand theft in the 63rd overall pick: the Commanders steal Echoles and grade out a B.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Will Echoles, the No. 18 name on the board, stolen at pick 63. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Jahdae Barron gives the group a proven body among the projects.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 David Stone
In the 31st overall pick they get a run-stuffing presence up front, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
Pick41 Rnd2 Trey'Dez Green
The board fumbled Trey'Dez Green all the way to Round 2, Pick 9, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick63 Rnd2 Will Echoles
Somehow Will Echoles was still sitting there in slot 63, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick71 Rnd3 Kelley Jones
They took Kelley Jones at par in the Round 3 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick100 Rnd3 Corey Myrick
Corey Myrick at the 100th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick108 Rnd4 Evan Tengesdahl
Evan Tengesdahl in pick No. 108 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick125 Rnd4 Jayden Jackson
A quiet steal in No. 125: Jayden Jackson for less than the market said. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick145 Rnd5 Whit Weeks
A reasonable price with a little left over, Whit Weeks in pick 145. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick185 Rnd6 Mason Curtis
Mason Curtis slipping to pick No. 185 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick196 Rnd6 Christian Alliegro
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Alliegro. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick209 Rnd6 TJ Metcalf
A tidy bit of business in slot 209, where TJ Metcalf graded well above the range. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick223 Rnd7 Antonio Kite
A clean, defensible pick in the 223rd overall pick with a little surplus value in Antonio Kite. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick226 Rnd7 Chris Marshall
Fair-plus on Chris Marshall, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
