Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A-
ValueB+ NeedB- TradesA+ FutureA-
The Commanders let Metcalf fall into their laps, and walked away with a A-.

The Commanders ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. Add it all up and it grades out a clean A-.

The Metcalf steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.

The veteran additions, Jack Jones chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.

It is a haul that will look even better come September.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 David Stone
In the 27th overall pick they get a wrecking ball inside, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick58 Rnd2 Jadan Baugh
They took Jadan Baugh at par in pick No. 58, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick71 Rnd3 Jamari Sharpe
Good price on Jamari Sharpe in No. 71, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick185 Rnd6 Mason Curtis
Mason Curtis at pick 185 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick196 Rnd6 Christian Alliegro
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Alliegro at the 196th pick, value and slot in agreement. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick223 Rnd7 TJ Metcalf
TJ Metcalf in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
