Draft Grade — Commanders

FutureB-
Larceny in slot 115 lands the Commanders a B+, Pieper and all. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Commanders were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Harbor pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick Analysis
Pick10
Rnd1
Dylan Stewart
No drama and no debate, Dylan Stewart went about where he belonged in pick No. 10. It fills a real need, too.
Pick59
Rnd2
A'Mauri Washington
Circle this one: A'Mauri Washington at No. 59 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick69
Rnd3
Jyaire Hill
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jyaire Hill. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick80
Rnd3
Nyck Harbor
Nyck Harbor at Round 3, Pick 16 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick115
Rnd4
Kade Pieper
Kade Pieper in the 115th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick145
Rnd5
Justin Evans
Taking Justin Evans in the Round 5 slot is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick165
Rnd5
Tao Johnson
A slide stopped in pick 165, with Tao Johnson worth more than the price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick173
Rnd5
Jermaine Mathews Jr.
They will replay Jermaine Mathews Jr. at No. 173 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick185
Rnd6
Niki Prongos
They took Niki Prongos at par in the 185th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick196
Rnd6
Christian Alliegro
By-the-book stuff, Christian Alliegro at pick No. 196 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick223
Rnd7
TJ Metcalf
TJ Metcalf in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
