Draft Grade — Commanders

FutureA
The Commanders let Washington fall and pounced. Final grade: B. The Commanders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and A'Mauri Washington fell into the 60th pick. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. Wide receiver is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
Cam Coleman
No edge and no loss on Cam Coleman in pick No. 26; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick60
Rnd2
A'Mauri Washington
Taking A'Mauri Washington in slot 60 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick71
Rnd3
Kelley Jones
They took Kelley Jones at par in pick 71, which is nothing to complain about. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick91
Rnd3
Brandon Baker
The board had Brandon Baker higher than No. 91, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick126
Rnd4
Jaylen McClain
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaylen McClain at the 126th pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick145
Rnd5
Whit Weeks
Whit Weeks in Round 5, Pick 7 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick185
Rnd6
Mason Curtis
Mason Curtis in the 185th overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jay'Vion Cole
Nice patience on Jay'Vion Cole, who had no business lasting to the Round 7 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
