Draft Grade — Commanders

FutureB+
The Commanders won the night they stopped Echoles from sliding. Grade: B+. Somebody in No. 50 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Will Echoles, the No. 18 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Adding Jahmyr Gibbs by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Damon Wilson II
In the 17th overall pick they get a problem off the edge. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick50
Rnd2
Will Echoles
They robbed the room for Will Echoles here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick81
Rnd3
Nyck Harbor
They took Nyck Harbor at par in Round 3, Pick 17, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick124
Rnd4
Greg Johnson
Circle this one: Greg Johnson at the Round 4 slot is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick145
Rnd5
Jaylen McClain
They will replay Jaylen McClain at slot 145 for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick185
Rnd6
Mason Curtis
Mason Curtis at No. 185 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick196
Rnd6
Christian Alliegro
Christian Alliegro in pick No. 196 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick223
Rnd7
Antonio Kite
They did well to land Antonio Kite in the 223rd pick, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
