TradesA+
FutureA+
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Commanders a A-. Nobody else had AJ Green anywhere near the 126th pick. The Commanders did, by 38 spots, and that gap is the whole story. Very little went wrong, and the A- is earned.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Landing Stone that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Commanders clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
In the end it comes back to David Stone, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick26
Rnd1
David Stone
David Stone slipping to the 26th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick71
Rnd3
Nick Marsh
They reached a country mile for Nick Marsh at the 71st overall pick, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick123
Rnd4
Justin Evans
By-the-book stuff, Justin Evans at pick 123 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick126
Rnd4
AJ Green
They talked themselves into AJ Green at slot 126, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick145
Rnd5
Mateen Ibirogba
Mateen Ibirogba at pick No. 145 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick166
Rnd5
Tao Johnson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Tao Johnson at No. 166 is the proof. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick185
Rnd6
Christian Alliegro
A conviction pick on Christian Alliegro at slot 185 that the board grades a round light. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick202
Rnd6
Emerson Mandell
Emerson Mandell at No. 202 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick223
Rnd7
Jay'Vion Cole
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jay'Vion Cole at pick 223. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
