Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB- TradesC+ FutureA
Best value of the weekend goes to the Commanders for McClain: B.

Somebody in No. 145 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Jaylen McClain, the No. 118 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.

The Erick Hallett II pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick Analysis
Pick26 Rnd1 David Stone
In the 26th pick they get a load in the middle, outstanding value to boot.
Pick66 Rnd3 Bray Hubbard
Bray Hubbard at No. 66 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick71 Rnd3 Jyaire Hill
By-the-book stuff, Jyaire Hill at slot 71 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick91 Rnd3 Nick Marsh
Nick Marsh in pick 91 is fair value, right on his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick101 Rnd4 Kade Pieper
A tidy bit of business in Round 4, Pick 1, where Kade Pieper graded well above the range. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick126 Rnd4 Jayden Jackson
Jayden Jackson at the Round 4 slot is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick145 Rnd5 Jaylen McClain
Taking Jaylen McClain in pick No. 145 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick185 Rnd6 Edwin Spillman
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Edwin Spillman at the 185th overall pick. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick196 Rnd6 Donovan Jones
A straight-up fair deal on Donovan Jones at Round 6, Pick 17, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick223 Rnd7 Cole Sullivan
Cole Sullivan at the 223rd overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
