Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesA+ FutureA
The Commanders answered their biggest question with Daniels. Grade: A-.

Start where it matters. The Commanders took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.

They will need Rosengarten to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.

The Milton III steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Leaving running back unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

A strong weekend's work, and a rare one to find this little fault with.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Jayden Daniels
By-the-book stuff, Jayden Daniels at No. 6 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick36 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick No. 36. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick37 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
No edge and no loss on Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick 37; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick40 Rnd2 Ladd McConkey
A clean, defensible pick in Round 2, Pick 8 with a little surplus value in Ladd McConkey. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick47 Rnd2 Kamari Lassiter
Kamari Lassiter at the Round 2 slot nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick67 Rnd3 Kiran Amegadjie
Kiran Amegadjie in the 67th pick is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick69 Rnd3 Patrick Paul
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Patrick Paul. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick78 Rnd3 Brandon Dorlus
They took Brandon Dorlus at par in the 78th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick100 Rnd3 Roger Rosengarten
Roger Rosengarten in the 100th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick139 Rnd5 Mason McCormick
They paid sticker price for Mason McCormick in slot 139, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick152 Rnd5 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at Round 5, Pick 16 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick222 Rnd7 Joe Milton III
They barely believed it either: Joe Milton III still on the board at pick No. 222. A need, and now a little less of one.
