A respectable, level-headed haul for the Packers: B-. There is conviction, and then there is this. The Packers took Barryn Sorrell a full 84 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend.
That Jeanty pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes. Quantity was the play, for better or worse.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Matthew Golden
In pick No. 15 they get a matchup problem out wide. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick22
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
In the 22nd pick they get an every-down engine for the run game at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick54
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
A straight-up fair deal on Jayden Higgins at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick74
Rnd3
Mason Taylor
No drama and no debate, Mason Taylor went about where he belonged in slot 74. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick87
Rnd3
Barryn Sorrell
They left a pile of value on the table to take Barryn Sorrell this early at Round 3, Pick 23. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick118
Rnd4
Dorian Strong
By-the-book stuff, Dorian Strong at pick 118 squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick124
Rnd4
Miles Frazier
Fair-plus on Miles Frazier, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick125
Rnd4
Hollin Pierce
Hollin Pierce at the 125th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick159
Rnd5
Logan Brown
A tidy bit of business in Round 5, Pick 21, where Logan Brown graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick198
Rnd6
Ricky White III
A big swing on Ricky White III at No. 198, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick237
Rnd7
Collin Oliver
Collin Oliver at pick No. 237 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick242
Rnd7
Jamon Dumas-Johnson
Jamon Dumas-Johnson at pick 242 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
