Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB- TradesF FutureB-
The Bears left with their quarterback, and a D- to match.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bears shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.

They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

The Van Pran pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They banked enough surplus on Franklin to cover a lot of smaller sins.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In slot 1 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value.
Pick9 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
In Round 1, Pick 9 they get a home-run threat at receiver. A real need, handled.
Pick43 Rnd2 Troy Franklin
Troy Franklin in pick No. 43 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick75 Rnd3 Sedrick Van Pran
Sedrick Van Pran at the 75th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick110 Rnd4 Darius Robinson
They paid up for Darius Robinson at the 110th pick when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick122 Rnd4 Javon Foster
A straight-up fair deal on Javon Foster at pick 122, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick145 Rnd5 Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen at the Round 5 slot is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick146 Rnd5 Malik Mustapha
Malik Mustapha in No. 146 lands just on the right side of the ledger. A minor need, but a need all the same.
