FutureB-
The Colts checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. It is the swing that defines the weekend: David Ugwoegbu in the 232nd overall pick, a good 79 spots before the room expected him.
Mitchell falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The Hart pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, offensive lineman and other spots.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
A tidy bit of business in No. 15, where Brock Bowers graded well above the range. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick46
Rnd2
Quinyon Mitchell
The board fumbled Quinyon Mitchell all the way to Round 2, Pick 14, and they scooped it up. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick97
Rnd3
Jalyx Hunt
Jalyx Hunt at the 97th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick115
Rnd4
Braelon Allen
Braelon Allen in the 115th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick117
Rnd4
Cam Hart
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback, offensive lineman and other spots to take Cam Hart, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick151
Rnd5
Ryan Flournoy
Ryan Flournoy in pick 151 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick155
Rnd5
James Williams
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for James Williams. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick191
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Dwight McGlothern at the 191st pick. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick230
Rnd7
Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford slid further than he should have, and No. 230 is lovely value for the linebacker. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick232
Rnd7
David Ugwoegbu
They reached into another round for David Ugwoegbu, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick234
Rnd7
Bub Means
Bub Means at the 234th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
