Best value of the weekend goes to the Saints for Sanker: B+. When a board-topper like Jonas Sanker slides to pick 184, you do not overthink it, and the Saints did not.
Reaching for Armstrong left real value on the table behind him. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Grover Stewart deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In slot 14 they get an island corner at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick40
Rnd2
Jonah Savaiinaea
No edge and no loss on Jonah Savaiinaea in No. 40; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick45
Rnd2
Tre Harris
They paid sticker price for Tre Harris in pick No. 45, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick71
Rnd3
Chris Paul Jr.
The board had cheaper options than Chris Paul Jr. at the 71st pick, and it noticed. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick93
Rnd3
Deone Walker
A tidy little value on Deone Walker in the Round 3 slot, a step better than break-even. It fills a real need, too.
Pick112
Rnd4
Terrance Ferguson
They took Terrance Ferguson at par in Round 4, Pick 10, which is nothing to complain about. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick117
Rnd4
Isaiah Bond
Somehow Isaiah Bond was still sitting there in the 117th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick131
Rnd4
Brashard Smith
A straight-up fair deal on Brashard Smith at pick 131, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick184
Rnd6
Jonas Sanker
The board fumbled Jonas Sanker all the way to Round 6, Pick 8, and they scooped it up. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick248
Rnd7
Andrew Armstrong
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Andrew Armstrong well ahead of where he belonged. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick254
Rnd7
Brant Kuithe
Brant Kuithe at the Round 7 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
