Bill DRAFTING FOR THEJaguars
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Jaguars cashed the board's mistake on Ransom: B-. The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Jaguars watched Lathan Ransom slide 78 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The Frazier pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Mason Graham
In the 5th pick they get a disruptive interior force. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick36
Rnd2
Tate Ratledge
Nothing to complain about; Tate Ratledge went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jordan Burch
They talked themselves into Jordan Burch at pick No. 70, and the board did not agree. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick92
Rnd3
Jaxson Dart
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jaxson Dart well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick106
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
No edge and no loss on Smael Mondon Jr. in the Round 4 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick129
Rnd4
Elic Ayomanor
Elic Ayomanor at No. 129 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick141
Rnd5
Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier in pick 141 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick181
Rnd6
Lathan Ransom
Taking Lathan Ransom in Round 6, Pick 6 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick193
Rnd6
Nick Nash
They left a pile of value on the table to take Nick Nash this early at No. 193. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick221
Rnd7
Jack Kiser
A linebacker of that caliber at slot 221 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
