Nobody dealt better than the Patriots this weekend: A-. If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Patriots, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.
They are betting Cephus proves the room right and everyone else wrong. That Rosemy-Jacksaint pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Bottom line, with JC Latham leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick11
Rnd1
JC Latham
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a blindside protector at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick35
Rnd2
Ja'Tavion Sanders
Ja'Tavion Sanders at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
Pick40
Rnd2
J.J. McCarthy
They paid sticker price for J.J. McCarthy in No. 40, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick42
Rnd2
Roman Wilson
No edge and no loss on Roman Wilson in pick 42; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick68
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
A tidy little value on Christian Haynes in the 68th overall pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick104
Rnd4
DeWayne Carter
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on DeWayne Carter. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick182
Rnd6
Jalyx Hunt
Jalyx Hunt slipping to slot 182 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick222
Rnd7
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint
They will replay Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint at the 222nd pick for years; that is how good the value is. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick229
Rnd7
Joshua Cephus
Joshua Cephus at pick 229 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
