The phones sank the 49ers this weekend: D. There is conviction, and then there is this. The 49ers took Parker Brailsford a full 40 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Too much went sideways, and the D is the honest tally.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Love steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
The 49ers clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Francis Mauigoa
In the 6th pick they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick10
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
In slot 10 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick24
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In the 24th overall pick they get a centerpiece for the ground game, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick37
Rnd2
Christen Miller
Nice patience on Christen Miller, who had no business lasting to No. 37. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick41
Rnd2
CJ Allen
By-the-book stuff, CJ Allen at the Round 2 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick61
Rnd2
Eli Stowers
A real head-scratcher, Eli Stowers in pick No. 61 is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jaeden Roberts
A conviction pick on Jaeden Roberts at the 70th pick that the board grades a round light. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick86
Rnd3
Brian Parker II
Brian Parker II in No. 86 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick91
Rnd3
Monroe Freeling
Value said wait; Monroe Freeling in pick No. 91 says they were not listening. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick93
Rnd3
Parker Brailsford
Parker Brailsford at pick 93 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
