Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Steelers let Franklin fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Steelers watched Troy Franklin slide 54 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

They will need McGregor to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 Cooper DeJean
In the 20th overall pick they get an island corner at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick51 Rnd2 JC Latham
JC Latham in pick 51 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick84 Rnd3 Troy Franklin
Troy Franklin at pick No. 84 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick118 Rnd4 James Williams
James Williams at slot 118 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick119 Rnd4 Braiden McGregor
They left a pile of value on the table to take Braiden McGregor this early at Round 4, Pick 19. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick194 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs in No. 194 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick240 Rnd7 Sam Hartman
This one needs a full-page explanation: Sam Hartman in the 240th pick, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
