Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall

The Cowboys did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. The Cowboys went off the board in a big way for DJ Uiagalelei, 61 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another.
However the rest shakes out, Taylor at that price is a win they earned. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Mike Green
In the 12th pick they get a problem off the edge, reach and all. More want than need.
Pick44
Rnd2
Trey Amos
They took Trey Amos at par in pick No. 44, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick76
Rnd3
Deone Walker
Deone Walker slipping to pick 76 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick150
Rnd5
Kalel Mullings
They barely believed it either: Kalel Mullings still on the board at No. 150. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick173
Rnd5
Kyren Lacy
Somehow Kyren Lacy was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick174
Rnd5
Jack Nelson
Taking Jack Nelson in the 174th overall pick is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick188
Rnd6
Earnest Greene III
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Earnest Greene III in slot 188, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick190
Rnd6
Addison West
Addison West in No. 190 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick209
Rnd6
DJ Giddens
They robbed the room for DJ Giddens here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick211
Rnd6
Teddye Buchanan
Teddye Buchanan in the 211th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick236
Rnd7
DJ Uiagalelei
They talked themselves into DJ Uiagalelei at pick 236, and the board did not agree. The roster fit checks out.
Pick249
Rnd7
Roc Taylor
Steal is underselling it; Roc Taylor at Round 7, Pick 31 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
