FutureC
Nobody dealt better than the Panthers this weekend: B+. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Ethan Downs at pick 251, a reach of 35 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They banked enough surplus on Bowman Jr. to cover a lot of smaller sins. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Shemar Stewart
In Round 1, Pick 12 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick27
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
In the Round 1 slot they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jalon Walker
Jalon Walker at No. 44 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick90
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
Dylan Fairchild at the 90th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick111
Rnd4
Tai Felton
A tidy bit of business in the 111th pick, where Tai Felton graded well above the range. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick114
Rnd4
Jake Majors
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jake Majors well ahead of where he belonged. It fills a real need, too.
Pick130
Rnd4
Aeneas Peebles
The board had cheaper options than Aeneas Peebles at Round 4, Pick 28, and it noticed. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick140
Rnd5
Billy Bowman Jr.
Steal is underselling it; Billy Bowman Jr. at slot 140 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick146
Rnd5
Mitchell Evans
Mitchell Evans at the 146th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick204
Rnd6
Desmond Watson
They reached a country mile for Desmond Watson at the 204th overall pick, and the board is aghast. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick230
Rnd7
Kobe Hudson
Kobe Hudson slipping to the Round 7 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick247
Rnd7
Ja'Quinden Jackson
Ja'Quinden Jackson in pick No. 247 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick251
Rnd7
Ethan Downs
Ethan Downs at No. 251 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick257
Rnd7
John Williams
A premium they did not need to pay, John Williams a notch or two before his time. The roster fit checks out.
