Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureC-
The Bears let Winston Jr. fall and pounced. Final grade: D.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bears did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.

The Winston Jr. steal is the beam this whole class leans on. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Tetairoa McMillan
In the Round 1 slot they get a true top target at fair value.
Pick27 Rnd1 Walter Nolen
In the 27th overall pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick39 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton slipping to the 39th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick41 Rnd2 Colston Loveland
Nice patience on Colston Loveland, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 9. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick45 Rnd2 Malaki Starks
You do not let a safety like Malaki Starks reach pick No. 45 and blink. They did not. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick48 Rnd2 Marcus Mbow
Marcus Mbow at No. 48 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick148 Rnd5 Kevin Winston Jr.
Taking Kevin Winston Jr. in pick No. 148 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
