Draft Grade — Texans
Overall B
ValueA- NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Texans and Bullard: B.

Call it larceny. Javon Bullard sat on the board until the 127th overall pick, and the Texans did not need to be asked twice. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.

If Putnam pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.

Good work on the whole, with running back the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick23 Rnd1 Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 23rd overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick59 Rnd2 Quinyon Mitchell
Quinyon Mitchell in Round 2, Pick 27 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick85 Rnd3 Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson at the 85th pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick123 Rnd4 Justin Eboigbe
No edge and no loss on Justin Eboigbe in pick No. 123; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick127 Rnd4 Javon Bullard
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Javon Bullard in the Round 4 slot, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick164 Rnd5 Isaiah Adams
A offensive lineman of that caliber at No. 164 is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
Pick239 Rnd7 Xavier Thomas
A premium they did not need to pay, Xavier Thomas a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick248 Rnd7 Will Putnam
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Will Putnam well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
